Job Summary:

ommunity Based Educator will be posted at the community based training centers located inside health facilities in four target districts.

The CBE promotes healthy lifestyles in the community, encourages appropriate use of health services, and treats and refers common illnesses.

The CBE is also accountable to the Community Support Shura for performance and community satisfaction and technically accountable to the community health supervisor (Master Trainer) .
The CBE will supervise all community health activities, not only related to door to door visits but also activities related to Community Support Shuras. He/ she will be responsible of 200-240 household in her target community and will assist in the formation and linkage of community health committees (CSSh) with the CBE program and health facilities. He or she is responsible for supporting the community in identifying and addressing their health problems.
Through all of the community based surveillance mechanisms CBEs will help the communities in the establishment process of their community institution, problem identification and community mobilization

Duties & Responsibilities:

1) Actual implementation of community based surveillance
system on maternal and newborn health at the target
communities.

• Covers 200-240 households (Women in Child Bearing
Age) in her catchment area.

• Conducts regular day to day visit to target
communities.

• Provides a monthly plan for her daily visits and
share it with her/his supervisor.

• Identifies eligible households and keeps proper
track and record of target households.

• Fill out BABIES, refer sheet and follow-up forms
for pregnant and neonates up to 42 days after
delivery.
• Fills out surveillance tools and provides reports
back to supervisor and OMID team leader.

2) Supervision of community support shuras and the
interventions carried out within shuras.

• Contacts with communities conducts focus group
discussions and community meetings in order to
identify main health problems at the community
level.

• Actively participate in community meetings and
major community events.

• Organizes communities in groups and launches
community support shuras.

• Attracts the eligible women including mothers-
in-law into shuras and ensures the normal flow of
activities at the Shuras.

• Ensures proper documentation of data and
information and maintain appropriate reporting
system from CSSh interventions.

• Take active part in strengthening decision making
at community level, capable of active participation
in all Shuras and gatherings in her catchment area.

• Design illustrated community map of her /his target
working area.

• Conduct regular surveys to keep track of project
CAAC (Catchment Area Annual Census) based on
recommendations from MoPH and office.

3) Conduct Health Awareness sessions and enhance the
implementation of Behavior Change Communication.

• Conduct health education sessions during house to
house visits as well as in Community support shuras.

• Provide general information on Ante-Natal and
postpartum care for women in need, and promote them
for regular and timely use of health services.

• Organize specific sessions on key dangers sings
during different time periods (pregnancy,
childbirth and postpartum) for target households

• Conduct health sessions on new born care for
mothers and target households

4) Encourage families in effective use of Family Planning
methods, Immunization and early initiation of breast
feeding.
• Encourage couples to practice birth-spacing and
receive family planning services.

• Take active part in distribution of family planning
commodities for eligible couples.

• CBE is encouraged to promote the Lactation
Amenorrhea Method (LAM) of birth spacing in the
first six months after a child is born.

• Organizes specific sessions on family planning
subject for target women with special focus on
mothers post – C/section delivery.

• Enhance male contribution, mobilization and support
for maternal and newborn health.

• Encourage and mobilize family/community
participation in the immunization of children and
women of child-bearing age.

• Promote good nutrition practices and encourage
early breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding of
children
under six months of age for till the age of two.

5) Take active role in introduction of refer concept and
actual refer process from communities to health facility.

• Ability in recognition of problems and key danger
signs during pregnancy, and after .Identify high
risk pregnancies for establishment of a functional
referral system.

• keeps proper track of women referred to health
facility
• Records refer cases into surveillance tools and
provide necessary report on refer out comes.



6) Maintain a favourable working relationship with the
target communities and shoras.

• Deliver first aid services for families in case of
accidents or emergency.

• Ensure regular replacement of supplies in their
kits
• Identify cases of mental health illnesses among
women in reproductive age and refer them accordingly

• Identify cases of TB, disability and any other
common health problem among target communities and
refer them accordingly.

• Promote psychosocial well-being and mental health
in the community and raise awareness about
prevention identification of disability

• Identifies and reports immediately to the
supervisor any problems that may interfere in
achieving program objectives

• CBE is able to manage the diarhoeal and
respiratory diseases in her target community.

. Flexibility to deliver any extra health services,
if based on communities and villages demand or
requirements of project /MoPH.

EDUCATION:
(Secondary education 9-12 grade) Baccalaureate preferably
Good (functioning) knowledge of reading and writing

WORK EXPERIENCE:
Community Based work experience is preferred

SKIILLS:
Skill of data collection, Communication, proper delivery of health education and BCC messages

LANGUAGES:
Fluency in written and spoken Dari and Pashto languages

GENERAL:
Being resident of district 7 and 8 is a must, permanent resident of the area where she/ he extends health service
Preferably a recipient of a CARE food ration program card
Physical capability, Enthusiasm with the community work, Family permission for community work, Age beyond 30, can participate in regular monthly training programs

Requirements:
The position requires team approach attitude, interest in learning new skills, public relations skills and initiative.
