Pajhwok Afghan News
Pajhwok Afghan News (www.pajhwok.com) is the leading independent news agency registered with the Ministry of Information and Culture of Afghanistan. Pajhwok has a network of reporters nationwide larger than any other news agency in the country. Pajhwok provides comprehensive, reliable, timely and bias-free news about Afghanistan from an Afghan perspective. It distributes and publishes online daily reports and photographs as a service to newspapers, radios, and television news channels as well as individual and institutional subscribers. In the five years of its existence, Pajhwok has become Afghanistan’s most credible news and feature service-provider to national and international media outlets on a national and international level.
Pajhwok Afghan News will recruit two trainers to launch a team of reporters covering Afghanistan's parliament, for three months each consecutively. The first trainer will begin in mid- to late October after the election results and continue to early January 2011; the second will begin shortly after that. Alternatively, an exceptionally strong candidate may be considered for a single, six-month contract.
The trainers will work with five reporters to create a "pool" coverage for all Afghan media on the activities and analysis of Afghanistan's national assembly, and its individual elected members.
In this group of reporters, one will be from Pajhwok staff and four will be competitively selected from other Afghan news outlets, including TV, radio, print, and online. The five pool reporters would also be shadowed by five interns, to be selected competitively from universities in Afghanistan.
The trainers will work with reporters, interns, and the two assigned editors, on a daily basis for three months. The training would involve both formal lessons and on-the-job training, such as critique of interviews and press conferences, review of their story preparation and development, and developing group reporting projects.
